Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

It is so nice to be home!

We are home (well, we're in SJ) Ronan had a fever last night (his blood counts are way down) so we were admitted to the Paediatric floor at the Regional Hospital. No internet connection in our rooms!
Other than having a fever, Ronan is doing really well. He is laughing, eating, drinking and moving around. He put together a 1268 piece Lego crane - 3 instruction books later - he started Sunday evening and finished this morning. Thanks Trish. :)

We estimate to be home again sometime on Friday. His blood counts will probably start going up again on the weekend, so I will let everyone know when he can handle visitors :) While his counts are down he tires quickly, and is susceptable to infection - so it's best for everyone if we wait.

We had a great visit with Stephanie and Zeta - thanks for teaching us how to play Settlers of Catan. Ronan says it's better than Risk!!!

  1. Zeta and I had a great time visiting with Team Ronan. We started in Halifax with a visit to the IWK, then the hotel with the pool, then Grandma Lydia's, and the SJ Regional. Zeta won the 3 hour game of Colon de Catan on our last day, but the Boyd boys (all 3 of them) have invited us back for a challenge round. They had better get practising!!!

  2. Hi Ronan. We love Settler's of Catan too. There must be a game playing gene in the boyd family. Hope you get to hang out at home soon. Lots of love, Joanne, Garry, Cameron and Rosita in Ottawa.

    Big hello to Malcolm too!
