Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

Ronan's settled back in his room

Ronan is impressive. He's determined. When Joe and I were allowed to meet him in the Recovery room he was awake and ready to see us. He needed to know where the incision and chest tube were. He had to have a chest x-ray, which meant sitting up or lying on his back. He chose to sit up and did a lot of the moving on his own. When we tried moving him back to his side, he said, "don't move me, I'm comfy"! He knows what he wants!
It took a little time to move from recovery to our room on 7 Link. He is comfortable in his bed, he's watching tv, and he's eating his second Popsicle.
Dr. Giaccomantonio was pleased with the surgery and said he accomplished what he set out to do: he removed all 3 spots and checked over the entire left lung. Ronan didn't loose much blood and didn't require a transfusion. He will start his last round of chemo (just the Ifosfamide this time) in 10-14 days from today, depending on how long he stays at the IWK.

Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and overwhelming support.
