Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

Iggy Pops In For A Visit

Ronan continued to expand his circle of celebrity acquaintances today as Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff dropped by his room at the IWK for a chat. Iggy brought with him his wife Zsuzsanna Zsohar and Dr. Stan Kutcher, the Lib candidate in this riding (and who is an employee of the IWK). They chatted for 5 or 10 minutes about Ronan's interests and Ronan was characteristically frank (no, he won't be watching the game tonight, he'll be reading Stephen King... no, despite his height, he has no interest in playing in the NBA, because basketball is boring and he'd rather play guitar). Afterwards, Ignatieff mentioned Ronan several times in his press conference in front of the hospital. This and video of Ronan's visit may or may not make the news tonight (I saw local and national CTV cameras there). Record it for us!

  1. Ali, I hope you and Joe are taking notes. If you ask me Iggy was lucky to meet Ronan! I will watch for "Ronan's" name being dropped on the news. Have a Happy Easter.

  3. If you go to Ignatieff's website, you can find this photo and another. It was fun. He asked Ronan if his lego was a Transformer...

  4. Happy Easter Ali ! I plan to eat until I am shaped like a seasonal egg; I will wear bright socks so no one makes a mistake and tries to stuff ME in a basket and thus separate me from my Easter stash.
Cool to read that the party leaders are seeking out the celebrities(aka Ronan!) to try and bask in their light for a while. Sang at Mass my favorite Psalm...from Exodus15...it reminded me of Ronan...all about great strength and beauty. 'glorious his triumph'

  6. Hi Ali, (Joe, Malcolm and of course Ronan)
I was visiting Wanda Elliott this fall while she was taking care of your Mom and Dad's cat. I have been following your blog and Ronan's success stories ever since. I also saw the Toronto Star's story on Iggies visit with Ronan and will send a copy of it to Wanda for you.
    Happy Easter to you all.
