Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

Hotel'n it Up

Hi Everyone! It took Karen and I 4 hours to pack up Room 619...for the first time in 3 weeks Joe was nowhere to be seen - some things never change. Thank you Karen. There would have been tears and grief had you not been here today. When we arrived 3 week ago, we had one change of clothes and one bag. The trunk of the car is packed - the back seat is full and my parents took 4 bags back to SJ this morning. :) So thank you all for the books, the toys, the toys, the books, the cards (I think we filled 3 big bags), the baskets of food, etc etc.

Ronan is doing great. He is tired but in a great mood. It is so nice to be out of the hospital. We even got the OK to go swimming in the hotel pool!! (That's all the information you're going to get about our where-abouts)!!

We will be checking back into the Health Hotel on Tuesday morning - when Round 2 of chemo starts - we will be on 6 Link, but our room will probably change. Ronan has the most mail, he is visited the most so the nurses know where to find us!!
I'll keep you updated.

Thank you Tom (my #1 Brother-in-Law) for using hotel points for us. It's pretty sweet!!

Thanks Marie (my sister) for the wonderful visit and the best hugs.

Thanks Kelli, Clyde, Astrid and Shasta for the cards - they made us laugh!

Thanks Jane and John Pasciga for the lovely card.

Thanks Tanya Paterson, Helen Gollings, Janet Clinton, Suzanne Buckley, Benita Turnbull, Duncan Hutchison, Harvesh, Jesmine, and Dilshad Elavia, Kate Elman, Dan Elman, Leona Laracey, Richard Kidd, John Ruigrok, Lori Roberts, and Helen French for organizing and running the dinner tonight. I am going by the list I received. I know there are many more of you who are involved, but I'm not there and don't know who I'm leaving out so thank you thank you thank you! You are amazing friends.

Love to you all -

Ali, Joe, Ronan and Malcolm

  1. Just got home from the dinner, and wow, Ronan has a lot of fans! There was super spicy delicious Indian food, sweet desserts, a tremendous turnout for the silent auction, but most of all, a show of support, love, and community for the Leonard/Boyd family!
    Have fun at the pool!

  3. I do apologize for my tears - but i really don't. The support to me is so amazing! A big family really doing everything we can for Team Ronan. We all seem to be doing what we can in our own way.

    Very special.
