Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

Ronan still in demand in the media

Well, if the official publication for New Brunswick's health authority counts as media, at least. Below is a little report in that publication regarding our visit to the hematology lab at the Saint John Regional a couple of months ago. Ronan also made the cover.

End of Treatment - Hawaii style

Ronan was the guest of honor at 4AS at the Regional today. The nurses and doctors held an "end of treatment" party for Ronan - it has been 2 months since he has stepped foot in the hospital and they hardly recognized him. Hair, freckles, a tan and energy. The room was decorated Hawaii style - and we enjoyed Hawaiian pizza (and vegetarian). Thank you Judy and Wendy and Dr. Paras and Cole and Kelly Pender and the girls in the childlife department. What a nice afternoon!

Hope you are all having a great summer...our count down is on!!

Camp Good Time was a good time!!

The boys are home. Tired but happy. Malcolm refused any part of this photo. Can you find Ronan?
Thanks to the Masons who raise the funds to sponsor all the families - what a wonderful opportunity for these kids. They canoed, kayaked, did archery, swam, discovered what a tuck shop is...loads of fun.
Now we are off on a 2 week road trip to Massachusettes to visit Zeta, Steph, and Bill and then back up to Canada to Ottawa to visit the Anzais, the MacKenzies, the Boyd/Mohrs and the Grabes.

Wish Trip booked!!!

We are flying to Wailea on the island of Maui on August 15 and we come home Aug. 23rd. Holy mackerel! Does any of this seem real? We will be snorkelling at Molokini and we have a helicopter tour booked over the Haleakala volcano, Joe is signed up for a surfing lesson in Lahaina. Joe is trying to schedule things to do and I keep saying that we need time to be beach bums!! We all have new bathing suits for our trip!! I check the weather network for Hawaii everyday - hot and sunny... it will be great to escape the Saint John fog!

thank you Children's wish and everyone who supports the foundation!

Camp Good Time

Ronan and Malcolm are away at camp for 6 nights!! Camp Good Time is a camp for kids who have had cancer. Ronan's counsellor is a survivor and a vegetarian too! Ronan was allowed to bring Malcolm and for the children who don't have siblings, they are encouraged to bring a friend. Joe and I took them to camp yesterday afternoon - the goodbye was hard on all of us after being so close for so long. The boys are in different cabins (for age) but Malcolm has a friend that he met at the IWK and Ronan, I am sure, recognized some familiar faces from the hospital. They were swimming in Grand Lake when we left them and the week looks perfect weather-wise for all the activities they have lined up. Ronan's cabin gets to stay up until 11pm every night so they can go outside and play flashlight tag! I'm sure there will be lots of stories when we see them again. :)
