Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

Ronan's Night - A huge success!

Happy New Year everyone.

I hope your holidays were shared with family and friends and filled with love and laughter.

Once again I have the pleasure of thanking some very kind Saint Johners. Sorry that it comes a little late, Dave and I had a some downtime too over the holidays. As many of you would know, on December 29 a wonderful group of local musicians hosted Ronan’s Night. Although we weren’t able to be in attendance, all reports indicate that it was a fantastic evening full of music, friends and generosity.

The Richard Kidd Jazz Combo was fantastic. Rachel Kidd played violin with the Combo. Jessica Rhaye followed and as usual, pretty much captivated the whole room. The Penny Blacks closed and although they were down a violin, they too entertained the room in their usual style.

While these events aren’t about the money raised it is important to recognize that the funds raised come from individuals who wish to support Ronan, his mom Ali and dad Joe and little brother Malcolm. And by all measures Ronan’s Night was a huge success thanks to the kindness and generosity of the organizers, Boyd and Leonard family friends and individuals who held separate fundraisers and brought the proceeds of their events to Ronan’s Night. At final count, Ronan’s Night raised a total of $3742.

At the risk of missing someone and recognizing that it would be impossible to name everyone who contributed to making Ronan’s Night a grand success, we would like to mention some of the people to whom we owe a huge thank you including all of the musicians who performed, Jason Ogden, Stephen Tobias, Judith Mackin, Chuck Teed, Candice Mac Lean, Adam Kierstead, Kelly Marino, Katé Braydon, Barb Crawford, Erin Sharpe, Sean Boyer, Chris Fudge, the Higgins family, Debbie Bathgate, Debbie Adshade, CFMH-FM Staff and Listeners and Hemmings House Pictures.

Finally, there’s been some musings about a personal performance at home for Ronan and family. Something I know he would love and perhaps give him a chance to jam with his friends on his new Christmas guitar. But everyone should know that everything is followed by a game of Risk and Ronan is pretty adept with all the practice lately.

Thanks everyone for your continued support. We appreciate everything that you’ve all done for Ronan and his family.
