Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

Surgery Underway

Because there are so many people hoping for news today, I'm happy to share that Ronan's surgery is underway. Those of you in the Maritimes may have heard the news from the past few days of cancelled surgery at the IWK as a cost cutting measure. Joe and Ali called a few moments ago to say that surgery started on schedule this morning. It will be a long day but the staff at the IWK have said that no news is good news when it comes to surgery. Joe, Ali and Ronan met with the surgeon and anesthesiologist last evening and learned other good news, the CT scan from last week revealed that they saw further tumor reduction from scans of a couple of weeks ago. Just the kind of news that was hoped for as Ronan heads into surgery.

Please don't expect any more updates on Ronan's progress until later this evening when we'll post something further but do keep Ronan in your thoughts and prayers today.
