Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

WOW!

Yep, I am amazed at the support for Team Ronan!

People have donated and are planning all kinds of events, stuff and time.  There is a big busker’s event at the market in Saint John this Saturday.  An Indian dinner with a silent auction is planned for later in the month.  Ronan’s school is involved.  Dinner for Ali & Joe.  Ronald McDonald house is open to the family.  Music, computer, house cleaning, visitors from all over, concerts, dance classes . . .  And more stuff that I do not know about.  It really must make Team Ronan feel supported.  You all deserve a pat on the back.

I had a personal goal for cash donations to the bank account for when it is opened up to Ali and Joe (in a day or so).  BLOWN away in the first half day!  We are now half way to my goal for the entire time to recovery.  Clearly I had no idea how important this is to so many people who know Ronan and his family.  Even this site now has over 1,000 hits (lower right corner of the page).

All in all, I think this will allow Ali & Joe to worry about the important stuff.  Ronan and Malcolm.  And their own health.  My suspicion is that this is hard to do, for the care givers to look after themselves too.  We are all in for a marathon here and not a sprint – just like the rest of life.  So everyone within touching distance needs to look after themselves too.

It is a beautiful thing to see that we are all doing what we can in our own way.  Let’s keep it going until Ronan’s welcome home party!
