Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

As many of you know, Ronan has a very serious illness.  This has come as a huge shock to everyone who knows Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe.  Many people are interested in how he is doing and what they can do to help. We have created this blog to share that information with family and friends.

The current situation is that he is in IWK Hospital in Halifax.  Ronan was transferred there by air on Saturday the 6th of November from Saint John.  He has already undergone some surgery on Sunday, to test his bone marrow and do a biopsy on his liver, and a number of tests.  Final diagnosis is expected soon, perhaps Tuesday.  However, he is in for a long treatment process involving chemotherapy before he is clear.  He is expected to stay in Halifax for about a month, and of course, Joe and Ali will be with him.

It would be great if you could also add to this blog.  It is a perfect spot for you to share your feelings and thoughts through Comments.  There will be several authors and anyone add a comment.  The key thing you need is a gmail account, then you can sign in and add your comments.  As a starting point, please become a follower by adding your contact information, then a comment.  Everyone is welcome, so please join and take part.

The authors at this point are:
Stephanie Boyd  stephanie.boyd@williams.edu
Karen Boyd        karenboyd@shaw.ca
David Eaket       deaket@shaw.ca
Others will also be set up as we move through this.  Let us know if you would like to author posts on a regular basis.

Many people want to help somehow.  It is difficult to suggest what everyone can do at this time.  Their needs will become clearer as Ronan moves through this process.  One thing we thought would help is to provide Joe and Ali with a little financial assistance.   Our hope is that this will allow Ali & Joe to focus on the important stuff and not have to worry about how the bills are going to be paid.  We have set up an account for anyone who would like to contribute.   This is not a direct request, but if you choose to contribute, look at the How to Contribute box below.
