Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

Round 3 Done!

Yeah, another round of chemo done. Now the 24hr flush. Ronan has been sleeping
most of the day due to the anti-nausea cocktail he's on. If all goes well we will be discharged late tomorrow or Monday!

  1. Happy New Year my dear friend! Glad to hear that round three is done. I am looking forward to you coming home again, let's try and have tea when you get home. I am in need of a good hug from you again!

  2. I never imagined that my 50th birthday would be spent in the Children's iconology unit at the IWK. But there you go, life rarely comes out the way you imagine it will. The best birthday parties include some great laughs, warm hugs, yummy food, a sip of wine, family and friends. And this one delivered all.

While Ronan peered out from the window Bill, Joe, Richard, Blaise, Fiona, Jim, Mom and I conducted our mentos and diet coke explosion experiment on street. I am sure any passersby thought we were a little nutty. Later we ate some delicious take out Indian food while Ronan dozed. Although he did manage to muster enough energy to gobble up a samosa. Later on back in our hotel room, Malcolm, Zeta, Bill and I were discussing what might happen in the new year. Malcolm announced that he would turn 7, 'the age of reason' Bill told him and explained that is the age that you learn the difference between right and wrong. "And right from left!" chirped Malcolm. Yes, right from left too.
Ronan continues to improve. And I know that many of us have a singular dream for 2011.
My toast for the year: Team Ronan says goodbye to 6 Link and school, and music and chess and corny jokes fill the hours of the day once more.
