Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

. . . for something really awesome

Last week Ali received a short email from Stéfanie Mayhew announcing that her students had been following Ronan's blog and wanted to contribute somehow.

Stéfanie is a French and Phys Ed teacher at Touchstone Community School, a small independent elementary school in Rothesay. Stéfanie and Ali met earlier this fall working on ''Excuse Me Lord But I Didn't Hear You'' with Clyde and Kelli Wray. You’ll remember Clyde from the moving poem Ronan!! Stéfanie had mentioned Ronan's story to her students, a couple of whom Ali taught. As Stéfanie wrote, “it was there and then that we decided to do more than talk about his situation and we all realized what a small world we live in and that there really are only 2 degrees of separation with anyone who lives in our community. A teacher at our school taught Ronan a few years ago and Ali had also taught some other children close to me.”

The kids brainstormed for a while and Stéfanie sat back and smiled. She was really blown away by their determination and creativity. (“If only kids could run our country!!”). We all realized that if it could happen to Ronan and his family, it could happen to anyone.

Stéfanie says that Ronan’s blog has allowed her students to witness how one boy could impact a community. Watch the video and you decide.

Et merci Stéfanie et vos éléves!
