Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

One thing I have learned

One thing I have learned in the past 2 1/2 weeks is that if you are going to get sick, you going to want to have friends that are musicians. I have been so totally amazed, and awestruck by the generosity of all of Ronan's and Ali's and Joe's and Malcolm's musical friends. They have been busking in the market, playing concerts, raffling art, collecting items for gift baskets. It seems that everyone in the Saint John musical world is giving their all to make sure that Ali and Joe don't have to worry about money as they take care of Ronan.

The end result, though, is something much more profound. These musicians, and their friends, and all of those who have reached out to the team in Room 619 have created of a sense of togetherness, a wonderful feeling of support, and joy. A reminder of how connected we are to each other. And this I know, will be the magic that brings Room 619 the sunshine it needs.

This weekend, yet another group of musicians, Symphony NB, will be selling raffle tickets on a gift basket filled with items generously donated by dozens of local businesses and individuals. The tickets will be available at the community kiosk in Brunswick Square for $10. Drawing on December 15th.
