Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

Monday Monday

Hi everyone - sorry to keep you waiting!

Today the mailman came! Ronan received hilarious jokes from Sarah Paterson - (nice drawing of the rocket!), a package from Zeta (more books, mind puzzles, a cute eraser and an activity book and a picture of Zeta in her Halloween costume - a rocket...a theme happening), a package from Lydia and Tanna (lego!!), and lots of emails with funny jokes. Thank you everyone.

We were visited by Susan Sanderson - Ronan had to do some medicine when she arrived, so Malcolm showed the way to Tim Horton's and they had coffee together. I'm sure he had coffee too because he is still awake :)
Russell and Rita Fougere arrived in the afternoon with bags of food (lasagne, rolls, muffins, banana bread - all yummy. Ronan even asked to try the lasagne because it smelled so good!) So I had supper taken care of today with enough left for tomorrow and a dinner invite for Wednesday. Thank you Rita!

Tomorrow we are going to try skyping with his Gr.4 class at Prince Charles School - Ronan was feeling a bit grumpy and frustrated today, so we'll see what the day brings. He was feeling much perkier this evening...good news - tomorrow Ronan should be off the hydro-morph! Yeah! That should also help his appetite.

Ronan's blood count (CBC - complete blood count) has started to go down. We are told it goes way down (neutropenic - low white blood cells...the equivalent to anemic being low red blood cells.) We get a print out of his blood results everyday and get to track what's happening. This will help us be prepared for Round 2!

Just one more thing before I catch some zzzz'z. Thank you everyone for sending me beautiful emails today: Clyde, Duncan, Benita, Cathy, Helen (she emailed without me!)Tracy, Mom, Karen, Heather W, Lydia, Tanna, Tanya, Sonja, Dave E, Jason. I think I cried with each one.I did a lot of crying today. And the phone calls: Steph, Mama Lydia, Karen, Benita, Marie, Ben, Verity, Joan, Susan, Mom. I really hope I didn't miss anyone. And all of you who are praying, thinking of us, sending happy thoughts - and being Team Ronan.

  1. Ali and Joe,

Our prayers are with you and your boys, especially Ronan. I have been forwarding information to the Chess club people, so they know the status of what's going on. I can't imagine what you're going through. It's every parent's fear. Bon courage, and may your love for each other carry you through this ordeal.
