Ronan was born on June 13, 2001 in Edmonton to Joe and Ali. He is a big brother to Malcolm; grandson to Lydia, Teresa and Bob; nephew, cousin and friend to many. A 4th grader at Prince Charles School; musician; music lover; chess champion; Harry Potter fan; bananagram-er; card shark; board gamer, corny joke teller. And cancer fighter.

This blog is intended to ensure that Ronan’s vast support team of family and friends are connected, informed and engaged while he, dad Joe, mom Ali and brother Malcolm help him beat a terrible, scary disease - embryonal sarcoma, a rare childhood liver cancer. So welcome to Ronan’s blog. Sit, read, cry, and vow to fight this fight with Ronan, Malcolm, Ali and Joe. And please leave a few words of encouragement with a Comment.

Comic Relief Part Deux

We had the hair talk with Ronan last night. He took it really well considering all the fighting he and I did this summer to get it cut!! We told him he could colour it and colour he wanted...so, we are in the process of bleaching now...in about an hour our darling Ronan is going to have lime green hair!

The first thing Joe does when he isn't sure of something is consult either a dictionary or the internet. The question was how to get hair as green as possible. (We aren't teenagers anymore!) So you bleach first and then use Jell-O. Joe is getting really familiar with the Sobeys down the street... he came back with 4 boxes of lime Jell-O, food colouring and...get ready to split a gut...a 1 litre bottle of Clorex bleach (safe to use on fabrics)! When he got back we both started laughing and consulted the internet again...and then Joe went out again to get a box of L'Oreal Perfect Blondissima Cream. Much better choice Joe!

Okay, our time's up for the bleach, I'll post more later. Pictures too.

  1. Reminds me of the time when Ronan, age 2 or 3, saw a King Street punkster, complete with a spiked and dyed Mohawk, and expressed a desire to style his own hair accordingly. As I recall, Ronan was not pleased with the "time to go home for dinner" diversion.

  2. Ali - I just saw the link to this blog on Facebook earlier tonight - not sure if you remember me, we had a music class at UNB together. I just wanted to let you know that we will hold your family in our thoughts.

Also - my daughter & husband are coming to Halifax to APSEA (just across the street from the IWK on South Street) this Sunday. If you want anything delivered from SJ or if anyone from here wants to send anything down with Graeme & Kennedy, they'd be happy to pick it up and bring it to you guys. Please give me a shout if there's anything like that we can do - kawfolks@gmail.com

  3. Thanks Lisa - of course I remember you. My favourite class - music!
Hopefully we will be sent home to rest this weekend before starting Round 2. Your offer is sweet and maybe in the future we will need to take you up on it.
